Thanks Everyone! I have your essays and I'll have your grades in by the end of the week (I have no idea how long the offices take to post them on eLion, however). I've appreciated having all of you in class and hope you have a marvelous winter break. Enjoy yourselves, stay safe, and feel free to stop by next semester (and pick up your essays). Examples of definitional essays: \"What is Poverty?\" by Jo Goodwin Parker. Excellent definitional essay, depending heavily on narration and 1st person. You can also read "Indecent Exposure, Exposed!" and "What is Alaskan?", both student essays in your Penn Statements book.

Definitional Essay: \"On Bullshit\"

How To essays: On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner.

Welcome to English 15, one of three core required courses in rhetoric at Penn State University. These courses are required for all Penn State graduates - not because we wish to torment you with classes in communication production and analysis, but because rhetoric offers you techniques and insights necessary to all of the disciplines.

My goal for this course is for you to achieve some sense of fluency in both rhetoric and writing. Fluency doesn't mean that you never make mistakes or you tattooed all the rules on your forearm; but it does mean you're familiar and adept at using rhetoric--written, verbal, multimedia--to your purpose. It means that ten years from now, when you've forgotten the fancy vocab, you'll still be able to use writing and rhetoric to explore and investigate, as well as persuade.

Practice, of course, makes perfect, and much of this practice you will be doing right here, on this wiki. Take a look around, change what you'd like (web decorators welcome!), and dive on in. Check the syllabus for today's assignments and be sure to read all the links.
